North American Cup Circuit Travels to Dallas This Weekend

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympians and Rio hopefuls will be among the 1,600 competitors who will compete at the December North American Cup in Dallas this weekend.

The four-day tournament will begin Friday and all events will take place in Halls A and B of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, 650 S. Griffin St. Admission to the tournament is free and the events are open to the public.

Gold medals will be awarded daily in each of three categories: Division I (Senior), Cadet (U17) and Veteran (40+).

Among the athletes to watch are the following members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team:

  • Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Texas / epee), 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist
  • Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas / epee), 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist
  • Miles Chamley-Watson (New York City, N.Y. / foil), 2013 Senior World Champion
  • Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif. / foil), 2013 Senior World team silver medalist
  • Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y. / foil), 2013 Senior World team silver medalist
  • Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y. / foil), 2013 Pan American Team Champion
  • Jeff Spear (Wynantskill, N.Y. / saber), 2013 Pan American Team Champion

In addition to members of the 2012 Olympic Team, the competition field in the Division I events also will include numerous Rio hopefuls, including the following athletes who won medals at the Senior, Junior and Cadet World Championships in 2013:

  • Ibtihaj Muhammad (Maplewood, N.J. / saber), three-time Senior World team medalist
  • Eliza Stone (Chicago, Ill. / saber), 2013 Senior World team medalist
  • Adrienne Jarocki (Middle Village, N.Y. / saber), 2013 Junior World Team Champion
  • Sage Palmedo (Portland, Ore. / saber), 2013 Junior World Team Champion 
  • Skyla Powers (Decatur, Ga. / saber), 2013 Junior World Team Champion
  • Francesca Russo (Wayne, N.J. / saber), 2013 Junior World Team Champion
  • Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn. / foil), four-time Junior World medalist
  • Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J. / foil), three-time Junior World team medalist
  • Eli Dershwitz (Sherborn, Mass. / saber), two-time Junior World medalist
  • Brian Kaneshige (Maplewood, N.J.), two-time Junior World team medalist
  • Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif. / foil), 2013 Junior World team silver medalist
  • Ariel Simmons (Bellaire, Texas / epee), 2013 Cadet World Champion
  • Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif. / foil), 2013 Cadet World silver medalist

In addition to competitors from nearly all 50 states, the tournament also will include more than 200 fencers from throughout Texas.
