(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA’s winning streak continued on Friday when the U.S. Women’s Epee Team won silver at the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The team of Amanda Sirico (Bowie, Md.), Anna Van Brummen (Houston, Texas), Nina Van Loon (Boulder, Colo.) and Mason Speta (Chicago, Ill.) advanced to the table of 16 after a 45-27 victory over Denmark on Thursday.

In the table of 16, the Americans won or tied eight of their nine bouts against Switzerland and took a 45-32 match victory.

Team USA faced little challenge from Romania in the quarters where the Americans again won eight of nine bouts before winning the match, 45-33.

In the semifinals, the Americans faced Hungary – a team led by Reka Bohus who won silver in the individual event.

Bolstered by a 40-24 lead going into the final bout, Sirico held Bohus to three doubles and a pair of singles to win the match, 45-29, for Team USA.

In the gold medal final, the Americans trailed Russia by just two touches at 18-16 after the fifth bout. The Russians pulled away in the seventh and went on to take the match, 45-33.

The silver medal is the first podium finish for Team USA since the squad won bronze in 2012 and the fifth medal for the U.S. Women’s Epee Team in the last seven years.

The U.S. Men’s Epee Team also completed on Friday and placed 12th overall.

Justin Yoo (La Verne, Calif.), Alex House (Upton, Mass.), Lewis Weiss (Houston, Texas) and Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) advanced to the table of 16 with a 45-30 victory over Turkey.

Team USA lost its next match to Hungary, 45-34.
