Nzingha Prescod and Sabrina Massialas Earn Top-32 Results in Shanghai

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympian Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and 2014 Junior World Team Champion Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) each advanced to the table of 32 at the Shanghai Foil World Cup on Saturday.

The fifth seed in the tournament, Prescod defeated Yu Gong (CHN), 15-3, in the table of 64. Prescod finished 17th, however, after a 15-9 loss to Yulia Biryukova (RUS).

Massialas advanced through the prelim rounds on Friday to qualify for the table of 64 where she won an overtime bout against Katja Waechter (GER), 14-13. Massialas lost her next bout to 2013 Senior World team silver medalist Ysaora Thibus (FRA) and finished in 29th place.

London Olympian Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y.) and 2013 Senior World team member Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn.) both advanced to the table of 64.

Ross, who went 6-0 in the pools, came in as the 18th seed, but lost to Huilin Le (CHN), 15-9, in the table of 64.

After a 5-1 pool result, Lu lost her first direct elimination bout to Gaelle Gebet (FRA).

Prescod, Ross, Lu and Massialas fenced together in the team competition on Sunday.

Team USA defeated Hong Kong in the table of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals where the Americans lost to Russia, 43-36.

After a 40-38 loss to China, Team USA pulled through with a 44-43 win over Germany to finish in seventh place.
