(University Park, Pa.) - Wes Glon (State College, Pa.), interim head coach for Penn State men's and women's fencing teams and a 28-year veteran on the Penn State coaching staff, has been named the 2014 Coach of the Year by the United States Fencing Coaches Association. 

Glon was honored recently after leading Penn State to a National Championship in March after taking over as leader of the Penn State fencing program last August.

"His outstanding technical expertise and superior leadership culminated in Penn State winning the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championship in 2014," said Abdel Salem (Colorado Springs, Colo.) "In addition, he has contributed greatly to the development of fencing in the United States by serving as national team coach, internationally certified referee, and member of the USA Fencing board of directors for many years. He is an excellent example to the members of his team, his assistant coaches, and all our member coaches. The USFCA would like to congratulate Coach Glon, the Penn State varsity fencing team, and the entire Penn State athletic support staff on this prestigious accomplishment."

Glon took the reins as interim head coach in August and quickly set about the task of leading Penn State to its 13th NCAA Championship, an NCAA record. Glon led the Lion men's team to a 22-3 overall record while the women compiled a 16-10 mark. Glon then guided Penn State to the NCAA title as eight Nittany Lion fencers earned All-America honors, including sophomore Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.), who won the NCAA men's saber individual title.
