U.S. Fencers Earn Mixed Team Event Positions at the Youth Olympic Games

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – All five U.S. fencers will fence in the mixed team events at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China on Wednesday.

Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) will headline Americas 1 after winning gold in the women’s foil event on Sunday. Massialas will be joined by fourth-place epee fencers Justin Yoo (La Verne, Calif.) and Kasia Nixon (Los Angeles, Calif.) as well as George Haglund (Califon, N.J.) who finished 10th in the men’s individual foil event. The continental team also includes saber fencers Pietro Jose di Martino (ARG) and Julieta Isabel Toledo Ames (MEX).

Team USA saber fencer Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.) drew a position on Americas 2 after finishing 10th in the individual event. Metryka’s team includes women’s saber fencer Aydill-Marie Colon Quinones (PUR) as well as epee fencers Tia Simms-Lymn (JAM) and Dylan French (CAN) and foil fencers Gabriela Cecchini (BRA) and Pedro Marostega (BRA).

The mixed team competition includes four European teams, two teams from the Americas, two teams from Asia-Oceania and one team from Africa.
