(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Women’s Saber Team successfully defended its 2013 Veteran World Championship title on Sunday in Debrecen, Hungary.

Following a series of outstanding individual results that included five U.S. athletes winning medals on Saturday, an all-star lineup returned for the team competition.

Team members Jane Eyre (Swedesboro, N.J.) and Ellen O’Leary (Decatur, Ga.) won gold medals in this year’s 60-69 and +70 individual events while Lydia Mazorol (Simi Valley, Calif.) claimed silver in the 50-59 competition. The trio was joined by three-time Vet World Champion Delia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) and 2012 50-59 silver medalist Chaz Smith (Placerville, Calif.) as well as Catherine Radle (Atlanta, Ga.) who won bronze in the +70 epee event and finished in the top eight in saber.

Fencing in a round robin competition, Team USA won all four of its matches by substantial margins, including a pair of 30-21 wins over Great Britain and Germany as well as a 30-22 victory against France and a 30-11 defeat of Japan.

Team USA also competed in the men’s epee competition where the United States finished seventh.

Jonathan Jefferies (Alameda, Calif.), a bronze medalist in +70 epee on Saturday joined with former Vet World medalists Walter Dragonetti (Elyria, Ohio) and Jere Bothelio (San Jose, Calif.) and teammates Charles Alexander (Escondido, Calif.) and Mark Henry (Potomac, Md.) in the final event of the touranment. 

Team USA defeated Finland, 30-22, in the table of 16, but lost to Great Britain, 30-19.
