(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA’s women’s foil fencers took the top three positions on the podium at the Tauberbischofsheim Cadet European Cup in Germany on Sunday.

For Sylvie Binder (Armonk, N.Y.), Morgan Partridge (Swansea, Mass.) and Stefani Deschner (Mechanicsville, Va.), the results were strikingly similar to the Gyor Cadet European Cup in Hungary in September where the trio also won three medals with Partridge taking gold, Deschner winning silver and Binder taking bronze.

All three fencers began the day with undefeated records in the first pools and Partridge ended the early rounds with a perfect, 11-0, record while Binder and Deschner lost just one bout each.

In the direct elimination rounds, Binder held each of her first four opponents to single digit scores as she racked up wins against Sabina Hendrichova (CZE), 15-4; Beatrice Kudlacek (AUT), 15-5; Sophie Werner (GER), 15-8; and Alina Malyshkina (RUS), 15-4.

Binder lost her next bout by a touch at 10-9 to Leonie Ebert (GER) – the gold medalist from the last Cadet European Cup in Moedling, Austria.

Binder came back in the repechage with a 15-7 win against Emme Zhou (Lexington, Mass.) to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Both Partridge and Deschner would find themselves in similar predicaments as each won four DE bouts before dropping a fifth in the table of eight.

Patridge fenced two of her teammates in the opening rounds where she defeated Jessica Gets (Morganville, N.J.), 15-1, and Wei Chee Chen (Birmingham, Ala.), 15-5. Partridge won her table of 32 bout against Zofia Bronikowska (POL), 15-9, and defeated teammate Mariah Summers (Tigard, Ore.), 15-10, in the 16.

After a 15-14 loss to Morgane Patru (FRA), Partridge won her repechage bout against Renata Tomczak (POL), 15-7.

Deschner fenced a close opening bout against Ainhoa Vogel (GER), but pulled out a 15-13 win in the table of 128. Deschner won her next two bouts against French opponents as she defeated Marie Soriano, 15-10, and Clemence Vannereau, 15-9. Deschner defeated Tomczak, 15-12, in the table of 16, but lost to 2014 Cadet World bronze medalist Flora Pasztor (HUN), 15-7.

In the repechage, Deschner defeated teammate Isabelle Elizondo (Cypress, Texas), 15-5.

Samantha Viqueira (Maplewood, N.J.) also advanced to the quarter-finals after winning five straight DE bouts, but she lost to Binder, 15-10, and finished seventh overall.

Deschner, a gold medalist at this tournament in 2013, defeated Ebert, 15-12, and Partridge won her bout against Patru, 15-6, to put three U.S. fencers in the semifinals for the second time this season.

In the semis, Partridge upset the top-ranked Pasztor, 15-6, and Binder bested Deschner, 15-10.

The gold medal final would come down to a rematch of the Gyor semis between Partridge and Binder. While Partridge won their previous bout, Binder won her first international gold medal by a 15-14 score.

With her second Cadet European Cup medal of the season in hand, Binder has now climbed to No. 2 in the National Team Point Standings behind Patridge and ahead of Deschner.
