Olympic-level fencing is a sight to behold, and those of us in Portland will be able to catch a glimpse this weekend at the October North American Cup tournament.
The North American Cup, which is free and open to the public, will take over the Oregon Convention Center from Friday through Monday, awarding medals to some of the finest fencers in the country. While the tournament will see 1,600 competitors in all, the highlight of the weekend will be the handful of Olympians.
Chief among the group is Beaverton's own two-time Olympic gold medalist Mariel Zagunis, who won individual sabre gold in 2004 and 2008, and was chosen as the U.S. flag bearer at the 2012 Olympics in London ... more>
