(L-R): Silver medalists Paola Pliego (MEX), gold medalist Maria Belen Perez Maurice (ARG) and bronze medalists Sage Palmedo and Ursula Gonzalez Garate (MEX).

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Sage Palmedo (Portland, Ore.), the top-ranked junior women’s saber fencer in the world, finished 2014 with another podium finish on Wednesday when she took bronze at the Cancun Saber Satellite Tournament in Mexico.

Palmedo, who finished in the top 32 at the Absolute Fencing Gear® New York Grand Prix in Brooklyn, flew straight to Mexico to fence in her final tournament of the year in a field that included Maria Belen Perez Maurice (ARG) who won bronze in New York.

Fencing in a unique double-pool format, Palmedo won 11 of her 12 pool bouts, including a victory over 2005 Senior World medalist Ilaria Bianco (ITA).

After a bye into the table of 16, Palmedo defeated Sera Palings (NED), 15-6, and Celia Perez Cuenca (ESP), 15-9.

In the semifinals, Palmedo fenced her Oregon Fencing Alliance teammate, Paola Pliego (MEX), and missed the final round by two touches with a 15-13 loss.
