(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Fifteen-year-old Stefani Deschner (Mechanicsville, Va.) earned her second Cadet European Cup title in just over a year with her gold medal finish on Sunday in Montecatini, Italy.

Deschner’s medal is the third this season for the 2014 Cadet World Team member who won silver in Gyor, Hungary in September and bronze in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany in November.

After a 4-2 finish in the pools, Deschner was seeded 26th in the direct elimination tables and earned a bye into the table of 64 where she edged Ilaria Buricelli (ITA), 15-13.

Deschner won her next two bouts against Buricelli’s teammates – Marta Ricci and Virginia Lorenzetti – by 15-8 and 15-13 scores, respectively.

Two-time Cadet World Team member Morgan Partridge (Swansea, Mass.) and Sylvie Binder (Armonk, N.Y.) each advanced to the quarter-finals as well.

Partridge qualified for the quarters after a 15-12 win against Caterina Pozzan (ITA) in the table of 16 and Binder won her bout in the 16 against Alexia Manga (FRA), 11-9.

Partridge, who won gold in Gyor and silver in Tauberbischofsheim, placed in the top eight on the circuit for the third time this season after a 15-8 loss to Serena Rossini (ITA).

Binder drew Deschner in what would become their third bout of the season on the international stage. After splitting their two previous bouts, Deschner won their quarter-final, 15-7, to secure a third medal in her first Cadet European Cup appearance of the season.

Deschner advanced to the gold medal final with a 15-11 win against Alessandra Petrignani (ITA) and defeated Rossini to win gold.

In addition to maintaining her No. 2 ranking in the U.S. Cadet National Team Point Standings, Deschner also climbed to No. 2 in the Cadet European Rankings. Partridge, the top-ranked fencer in the United States, is now No. 4 in the European rankings and Binder sits third in the U.S. and sixth in the European rankings.
