(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that the honoraria given to tournament officials who support the North American Cup, July Challenge and National Championship events will increase in 2016-17.

The USA Fencing Board of Directors approved the increase for tournament officials in February at the meeting which was held at the Junior Olympic Championships in Cleveland, Ohio as part of the approved budget for next season. The new budget includes an overall increase of more than 35% from 2015-16 to 2016-17 for honoraria received by all officials who receive an honorarium to support the national events, including referees, armorers, bout committee members, sports medicine staff, etc.

“Each year, hundreds of members of our fencing community support our national events and are key to providing a positive experience for all of our athletes,” said USA Fencing President Donald K. Anthony Jr. “Our volunteer staff members are the lifeblood of our organization and we are immensely grateful for the work they do and the time they dedicate to traveling to each of our national tournaments.”

Additional details will be announced prior to the start of the 2016-17 season and following the seating of the new members of the Fencing Officials Commission.
