Letter from USA Fencing Executive Director

It’s hard to believe that it is March already – USA Fencing has started off the new year and quad moving at a fast pace.

The start of a new quad brings renewed energy and focus as the Board of Directors, National Office and volunteers work together to ensure we are fulfilling USA Fencing’s mission.  During the February board meeting, there were great discussions on our strategic roadmap priorities and reporting back to the membership on progress.  Several subgroups have been formed with the goal of further discussion at the April board meeting.

There are several new membership initiatives and programs that I’m excited about including the expansion of our high school and collegiate club fencing program and the addition of a new staff person to lead coaching education.  I’ve also really enjoyed reading about the Spirit of Sport winners – it is rewarding to read about the diverse members of the fencing family.

I continue to be amazed by our athletes that compete on the world stage. Every weekend, I cheer their athleticism and drive. I’m never disappointed in the way these individuals represent Team USA. They represent the very best of USA Fencing.

Our domestic events also continue to prosper on all levels. In January and February we hosted two domestic and two international events and are looking forward to the March NAC in Cleveland and the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Grand Prix in Long Beach on March 17 and 18. I want to thank the Long Beach Local Organizing Committee, led by Gabrielle Sabharwal, for its hard work. We are excited about seeing the world’s best foil fencers in the United States, including our own Alexander Massialas, the No. 1 ranked foil fencer in the world.  I hope you’ll think about joining the fencing family for this great event; tickets are available here.

USA Fencing continues to successfully manage our finances.  The board received the audit report at the February meeting and remains committed to strong fiscal responsibility. Our development program is growing thanks to all of you that have given a donation to the organization or the foundation.

As always, I want to thank you for your membership in USA Fencing. It is an honor to serve all of you and the sport of fencing.
