(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The Referees’ Commission is now accepting applications for the Domestic Development Vice Chair position, which becomes vacant on July 31, 2017.

Serving from August 1, 2017 through July 31, 2018 with potential to be reappointed for a four-year term, the Domestic Development Vice Chair is responsible for overseeing the grassroots and national development programs, as well as developing and managing referee training programs and providing recommendations for changes in ratings.

To be eligible, referees must have a National Referee rating of three for the past five years and have experience in developing and implementing training materials and programs.

Interested applicants should email a resume and cover letter to USA Fencing’s Senior Manager of Coaching Education Sam Callan (Colorado Springs, Colo.) at s.callan@usfencing.org with “RC Vice Chair Nomination” in the subject line. Applications are due on June 21 at 4 p.m. MT.

The cover letter should address the following:

  • If elected what would be your plans for the committee?
  • What steps would you take to implement those plans?
  • What do you see as the needs for developing referees?
  • What experience have you had in managing volunteers or chairing committees?
  • What experience do you have in training staff?

The Nominating Committee will begin vetting all nominees and applicants on June 26. The process will include reviewing resumes and cover letters, and may involve phone interviews with members of the committee.

The committee will then select the top two candidates and all eligible referees will vote to choose the winner. The selection will be submitted to USA Fencing President Donald Anthony Jr. (Columbus, Ohio), who will nominate that individual and submit the nomination to the USA Fencing Board of Directors for approval.
