Senior World Championship Team Highlighted by Olympic and World Medalists

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that the 2018 Senior World Championship Team that will compete in Wuxi, China from July 19-27 has been selected.

The 26-person team is one of the deepest teams USA Fencing has ever fielded to the Games, featuring 15 athletes who have won medals at the Olympic Games or Senior World Championships, including:

  • Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore. / Women’s Saber), two-time Olympic Champion and five-time Senior World Champion
  • Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif. / Men’s Foil), two-time Olympic medalist and three-time Senior World medalist
  • Daryl Homer (Bronx, N.Y. / Men’s Saber), 2016 Olympic silver medalist and 2015 Senior World silver medalist
  • Miles Chamley-Watson (New York City, N.Y. / Men’s Foil), 2016 Olympic team bronze medalist and 2013 Senior World Champion
  • Dagmara Wozniak (Avenel, N.J. / Women’s Saber), 2016 Olympic team bronze medalist and 2014 Senior World Team Champion
  • Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif. / Men’s Foil), 2016 Olympic team bronze medalist and four-time Senior World medalist
  • Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Men’s Foil), 2016 Olympic team bronze medalist and two-time Senior World team medalist
  • Monica Aksamit (Matawan, N.J. / Women’s Saber), 2016 Olympic team bronze medalist
  • Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas / Women’s Epee), 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist and three-time Olympian
  • Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Texas / Women’s Epee), 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist and two-time Olympian
  • Eliza Stone (Chicago, Ill. / Women’s Saber), 2014 Senior World Team Champion
  • Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Women’s Foil), two-time Senior World medalist and two-time Olympian
  • Lee Kiefer (Lexington, Ky. / Women’s Foil), two-time Senior World medalist and two-time Olympian
  • Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y. / Women’s Foil), 2017 Senior World team silver medalist and 2012 Olympian
  • Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn. / Women’s Foil), 2017 Senior World team silver medalist

The team also features nine fencers ranked in the top 16 in the world in their respective weapons with Imboden entering as the No. 1 fencer in the world in men’s foil. Kiefer, Massialas and Rio Olympian Eli Dershwitz (Sherborn, Mass.) are ranked No. 3 in the world in women’s foil, men’s foil and men’s saber, respectively.
