(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to recognize USA Fencing members who earned or renewed their USA Fencing rating during the month of August.

More than 100 athletes from 57 clubs earned or renewed their ratings last month. Athletes ranged in age from 11 to 64. The following ratings were awarded in August:

  • A18: 5
  • B18: 8
  • C18: 19
  • D18: 23
  • E18: 50

Among those earning rating last month were two Olympians. Three-time Olympic medalist Sada Jacobson Bâby (Atlanta, Ga.) fenced in competition for the first time last month since winning individual silver and team bronze at the 2008 Olympic Games. Bâby gold in the mixed men’s and women’s saber event and earned her B18 at the Nellya Sabre Starter. An Olympian in epee in 1996, Leslie Marx (Durham, N.C.) earned her A17 when she won Veteran Worlds last year. This year, she picked up an E18 in foil as well after taking gold in the Senior Women’s Foil event at the Mid-South Fencers’ Club “Big Blue” tournament.

Fencers can earn ratings at local, regional or national USA Fencing sanctioned events. Recognition will be based on the month in which the rating earned is posted by the USA Fencing National Office.
