Job Title: Graduate Assistant Coach

Job Description: Wagner College, an NCAA Division I institution located in Staten Island, New York, is looking for a motivated, energetic, talented and caring individual to serve as an Graduate Assistant Coach of Men’s & Women’s Fencing. This position reports to the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Fencing.

Anticipated start date is Fall 2023. The GA position at Wagner is a fully funded 2 year Graduate Assistantship, with tuition, room, board, and a small monthly stipend. GA's will undertake a course of study in our MBA program that has concentrations in Management, Finance, and Marketing.

Responsibilities: Assist with preparing the team for the varsity season including squad practices, working with individual athletes in lessons, scouting of opponents, match preparation, and attending all home and away meets. Work with the Head Coach to develop a comprehensive recruiting plan to identify and evaluate prospective student athletes. Commitment to working and teaching within an environment that embraces development of the whole student-athlete. Comply with all NCAA Division I, Conference and Wagner College rules and regulations.

Qualifications: 4 years of intercollegiate fencing experience, or 2 years experience coaching within the sport of fencing. Bachelor’s Degree required. A valid driver’s license is required. USFCA Assistant Moniteur or higher Certification preferred. Must be able to pass SafeSport certification and background check.

Additional Information: This position is ideal for a graduating senior or recent graduate who is looking to begin a career as a fencing coach - they will receive an MBA and a 2 year apprenticeship with an NCAA Division 1 team. Professional development and certification opportunities will be part of the package. The GA will get extensive hands-on experience working with fencers of a variety of different levels, as Wagner squads have student-athletes with experience ranging from Senior World Cups to first year walk-ons. The Head Coach will be taking a personal role in the GA's professional development and helping them make contacts they need to be successful in their career.
