History

As one of five sports included in every Olympic Games since the first modern Olympics in 1896, fencing has a rich, deep history.

In the United States, organized fencing began even earlier. On April 22, 1891, a group of fencers founded the Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA). The organization that would grow into the National Governing Body for the sport of fencing in the United States was born.
