Kiefer and Dubrovich Medal in St. Maur

Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France, Dec. 10-12—Olympic champion Lee Kiefer (Lexington, KY / Bluegrass Fencer’s Club) took the silver medal and teammate Jacqueline Dubrovich (Riverdale, NJ / Fencers Club) scored bronze at the St. Maur Women’s Foil World Cup.

Italian world champion Alice Volpi narrowly edged-out Kiefer in the final match, winning by a single touch, 15-14. In a teammate semifinal match, Kiefer overtook Dubrovich, 15-4. Kiefer also had another close match in the quarterfinals, winning against Korea’s Kiyeun Kim, 15-14. In the same round, Dubrovich beat China’s Qingyuan Chen, 15-11.

Other Team USA women’s fencers participating in the St. Maur Women’s Foil World Cup individual event included Maia Mei Weintraub (15th), Zander Rhodes (22nd), Stefani Deschner (42nd), Sara Taffel (45th), Delphine Devore (51st), Morgan Partridge (80th), Skylar Knight (111th), May Tieu (116th), Erica Hooshi (146th) and Allison Lee (151st).

The USA women, including Jacqueline Dubrovich, Lee Kiefer, Zander Rhodes (South Orange, NJ / V Fencing Club) and Maia Mei Weintraub (Philadelphia, PA / Fencers Club and Fencing Academy of Philadelphia), took seventh place in the team foil event, going out to Japan in the quarterfinals, 41-35. Japan went on to beat Russia in the semifinals, 31-26, and lose against Italy in the final, 43-40. With 20 teams competing overall, USA overcame Ukraine in the first match, 43-32.

Women’s team foil rankings included Italy (gold), Japan (silver), Russia (bronze), Canada, Poland, China, USA and Hong Kong, China.
