Notre Dame's Candela makes last Junior Olympics a golden one and the AFFA Women's Saber Team secures the top podium finish

Boston Fencing Club standout Jaden Callahan edged out his familiar fencing foe Simak, sealing his name in the Junior Olympic Championships history book as he earned his first-ever national champion title, “I’m super stoked, this is something I’ve been working on for years, and this is my first national medal." Crediting the Boston Fencing Club for the extensive training and preparation, Jaden could be seen leaving the Convention Center with a smile so big even the "blue bear" was impressed.

In Junior Women's Foil action newly crowned gold medalist Jaelyn A. Liu (Fencing Institute Of Texas) proved that everyone loves a comeback story- especially during a final.“My first bout was like, really bad. That was the most stressful…I didn't really expect to win it today. It was pretty refreshing. I liked it. I hope to win it again. It's really nice winning this medal, and I hope I do good. Next year and years to come!”

University of Notre Dame freshman Nicholas Candela locked down his new gold medal bling. When asked how it feels to be crowned a national champion, Candela said “ I feel good, I'm happy. It was my last Junior tournament and my first one so I'm excited and happy to end it on a good note.”

In team action today the Advance Fencing & Fitness Academy (AFFA) Women's Saber Team edged out the Zeta Ladies in a nail bitter of a final and simultaneously the Men's Foil team action unfollowed on the final strip. When asked what it felt like to beat the ECFC, Seoung Woo Lee (Top Fencing Club) said, "So basically, today's victory like means a lot for all of us because we felt an event yesterday and most of us didn't find it that well. So we felt like we needed to prove ourselves today and like, get the win. And we're gonna go out. We're gonna celebrate we're gonna eat some all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue with the team, you know, and celebrate our win.”
