Meet the saber fencer rising above challenges.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — This week, our Friday Featured Fencer is 17-year-old Faith Delassalas, a talented saber fencer from Elmwood Park, N.J. Training at Bergen Fencing Club under Coach Alex Kuznetsov, Faith has been making her mark in the world of fencing, exhibiting exceptional skill and dedication.

When asked why she loves fencing, Faith shares a captivating perspective.

"When I put my mask on, I transform," she says. "I become a different, mentally stronger person."

This mental transformation is key to her success on the strip, highlighting the importance of mental fortitude in this sport that offers a tantalizing blend of physical and mental challenges.

Faith's proudest fencing moment came as the world began to recover from the global pandemic. Eager to return to the sport, she participated in her first competition post-pandemic, feeling immense pride simply by being there with fellow fencers. This moment exemplifies the sense of community and togetherness that the sport of fencing fosters.

For fellow fencers, Faith offers sound advice: "Learn and build from each bout."

Her emphasis on continuous growth and learning from each experience, win or lose, showcases her commitment to personal development and improvement. And it's a big reason why Faith will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology in the fall and joining their fencing team for the 2023-24.

With her resilience, passion, and dedication, we have no doubt that Faith will continue to excel and make a lasting impact in the world of fencing.
