Six final gold medals awarded on the final day of the 2023 SJCC & Division II NAC.

RALEIGH, N.C. — On the final day of the 2023 Super Junior Cadet Circuit and Division II NAC, the final six gold medals were awarded to the fencers who found their way to the top.

Samuel Craig (Globus Fencing Academy) earned the first gold medal of the day and his second of the weekend. He took home the gold medals in both Division II Men’s Saber and Cadet Men’s Saber throughout the weekend.

Catherine Zhou (Tim Morehouse Fencing Club) was named the Division II Women’s Foil gold medalist after a hard fought battle. For her, it was all about her mindset, “yesterday I didn’t have such a good mindset, all I thought about was winning, and today I didn’t think much about winning, just how to get the next touch.”

For David Dodin (New York Fencing Academy) his moment of winning gold in Cadet Men’s Epee was something he was incredibly proud of. Not only was it a long day of fencing but he fenced against Ryan Jeyoon (Elite Fencing Academy), someone Dodin has looked up to most of his fencing career, “he is a great fencer, I have been looking up to him since I was really little.”  Frederick Fogelson (Manhattan Fencing Center) reigned in gold in the Junior Men’s Foil final. He came into the day fencing more defensive, but used his height to his advantage and “stuck my arm out, went backwards and figured it out from there.”

As Trisha Nath (Bergen Fencing Club) has wanted gold for a long time, today was finally her day as she took first on the podium in Junior Women’s Saber. Staying calm and relaxed were the keys to gold for Nath as she described tensing up when fencing on occasion, but she was particularly proud of the way she moved through all of her fencing. The final gold medal of the day was awarded to Alisa Yang (Guanyi Fencing Academy) in Cadet Women’s Epee. Also not expecting to make it to gold, just sticking to everything she had been practicing got her to where she needed to be.
