PHOENIX, Ariz. —   They say practice makes perfect, and “Going 100% every practice” is what Oliver Lindholm attributes to winning his Division II Men’s Saber National title. 

Lindholm fenced top opponents at his club and used that to his advantage to win gold. The final touch in his gold medal bout sent a sense of relief over him as he was “planning to finish 100%” and he did just that. 

Spencer Rothka felt all of the most positive emotions you could after winning the Division III Men’s Epee National title, he was “ecstatic and bouncing off the walls,” after putting gold around his neck. Rothka specifically pointed out that his club, Cardinal Fencing Academy, was “behind me the whole way through, from the first DE to the last, they were always cheering. I really couldn’t have done it without them.”

Samantha Renton battled her heart out to take home the National title in Division II Women’s Foil. She was starting to feel tired but managed “to balance her energy with her strengths and find fencing that isn’t too physically demanding, but strategically effective.”  Her mindset was key as she simply had to make it just one direct elimination at a time to get herself to the medal stand.
