COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In an effort to help grow the sport of fencing, USA Fencing has embarked on a nation-wide community outreach initiative targeting local YMCAs and Departments of Parks & Rec. We have identified over 70 organizations across the United States who are interested in bringing fencing to their communities.

Shannon Jolly, USA Fencing’s Senior Manager for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging shared his excitement saying, “There has been an overwhelmingly positive response from community partners across the country! We know there are many members of the fencing community who are passionate about growing our sport, and this presents an opportunity for everyone to contribute in some capacity.”

To make this outreach a success, we are calling on the support of our membership to spread access to the sport of fencing. There are a number of ways that you can help support the outreach of fencing in your local communities. We are currently looking for members who are willing to support in the following ways:

  • Host a free fencing demonstration at a local community organization

  • Host a fencing camp

  • Offer coaching services

    • Please note that the coach can determine the cost of service. For example, $50/hr for once/week coaching

  • Assist with an "intro to fencing" curriculum for instructors

If you or someone within your fencing network is interested in helping grow fencing in your local community, please sign up, using this link. A member of USA Fencing's staff will contact you with next steps in supporting the movement.
