Seth Kelsey Places 24th at Heidenheim Epee World Cup

Seth Kelsey finished 24th in the individual event at the Heidenheim Epee World Cup in Germany on Saturday.

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – With his nomination secured to his third Olympic Team, Seth Kelsey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished 24th in the individual event at the Heidenheim Epee World Cup in Germany on Saturday.

After a 5-1 result in the pools on Friday, Kelsey advanced directly to the table of 64 on Saturday where he opened with a 12-3 win over Daniel Lis (ISR).

In the next round, however, Kelsey lost to 2010 Senior World Champion Nikolai Novosjolov (EST), 15-10, and finished the day in 24th place.

Kelsey’s teammate in London, Soren Thompson (New York City, N.Y.), was exempt from the preliminary rounds due to his eighth seed in the tournament, but lost in the table of 64 when Igor Reizlin (UKR) won their bout in overtime, 8-7, and placed 34th.

Jimmy Moody (Colorado Springs, Colo.) went 3-2 in the pools and needed wins overNikolaus Hofer (AUT), 15-9, and Falk Spautz (GER), 15-8, in the preliminary tables on Friday to advance to the table of 64 on Saturday.

In the table of 64, Moody stayed within a touch of Ruben Limardo (VEN) in the third period, but Limardo scored three times in the final 10 seconds to win the bout, 8-4. Moody placed 56th overall.
