(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Seventeen-year-old Jacqueline Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) earned her second top-eight finish this season at a Junior World Cup on Sunday when she finished eighth at the Lyon Junior Foil World Cup in France.

A silver medalist in the team event at the 2011 Junior World Championships, Dubrovich’s result keeps her in fourth place in the junior rankings with the top four athletes following the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships qualifying for the 2012 Junior Worlds.

As one of seven U.S. athletes to advance to the table of 64, Dubrovich opened with a 15-10 win over Anna Sophie Braun (GER).

Dubrovich moved into the 32 alongside U.S. teammates Sharon Gao (Plainsboro, N.J.) and Sara Taffel (New York City, N.Y.) and Kyjah Coryat (New York City, N.Y.)

Dubrovich defeated Franziska Schmitz (GER), 14-10, and Taffel won her bout against Karen Weis (GER), 15-10; however, neither Gao nor Coryat advanced to the table of 16.

Gao lost to Lisa Milanese (ITA), 15-8, and Coryat dropped her bout to eventual bronze medalist Jeromine Mpah-Njanga (FRA), 15-8.

Taffel, the gold medalist at the cadet event in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, lost in the table of 16 to Olga Rachele Calissi (ITA) and finished 12th overall.

Dubrovich won her next bout against Inke Nehl (GER), 14-12, to advance to her second Junior World Cup quarter-final of the season after placing seventh in Bratislava in November.

Dubrovich and Calissi were tied at 13 touches each after nine minutes of regulation, but Calissi picked up the final score to win the bout, 13-12.
