Lu and Dubrovich Place in Top 32 at Bochum Junior Foil World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn.) and Jacqueline Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) each advanced to the table of 32 at the Bochum Junior Foil World Cup on Saturday in Germany.

The reigning Junior World Team silver medalists each earned byes into the table of 64 where Lu defeated Sandra Sulik (POL), 15-8, and Dubrovich won her bout against Marika Chrzanowska (POL), 15-7.

In the table of 32, however, the Americans were each stopped by top Italian fencers.

Dubrovich lost a close bout to 2011 Cadet World bronze medalist Martina Sinigalia (ITA), 15-12. Lu lost a 15-9 bout against 2011 Cadet World Champion Camilla Mancini (ITA) who went on to win the silver medal.

Lu ended the event in 18th place and Dubrovich finished 23rd.

Eve Levin (New York City, N.Y.) finished 33rd after a 15-14 loss to Szonja Szalai (HUN).

Competing at her first Junior World Cup, Mikela Goldstein (Riverdale, N.J.) also advanced to the table of 64. Goldstein edged Flora Tran (FRA), 15-14, in the table of 128, but lost to Pauline Ranvier (FRA), 15-10, and finished in 59th place.
