Kiefer, Cross, Prescod and Willette Advance to Table of 64 at the Shanghai Foil World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Four members of Team USA advanced to the table of 64 at the Shanghai Foil World Cup after preliminary competition concluded in China on Friday. 

Lee Kiefer (Lexington, Ky.) was exempt from the preliminary rounds as the #16 seed in the tournament and will meet Melanie Grube (GER) in the first round on Saturday. 

Beijing Olympic silver medalist Emily Cross (New York City, N.Y.) placed third in the pools after going undefeated with a 6-0 record. As the 19th seed in the table of 64, Cross will face 2009 Junior World Champion Ekaterina Kazhikina (RUS) on Saturday.

Reigning Junior World Champion Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won her first five bouts in the pools, but lost her sixth. Prescod won her next bout in the preliminary tables to qualify for competition on Saturday where she will fence 2004 Junior World medalist Gaelle Gebet (FRA).

Five-time Senior World Team member Doris Willette (Lafayette, Calif.) won four of six bouts in the pools and defeated Sophie Troiano (GBR) in the preliminary tables. Willette’s first opponent on Saturday will be Anne Sauer (GER).
