(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA placed 16th at the Barcelona Epee World Cup in Spain on Sunday.
Lindsay Campbell (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.), Lauren Willock (Astoria, N.Y.) and Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas) won their first bout in the team competition against Mexico, 40-27, but lost in the table of 16 to Korea, 45-38.
In the 9-16th place table, Team USA lost to Poland, 45-37 to finish 16th overall.
Individual competition was held on Friday and Saturday.
Eleven of the 12 members of the U.S. Team advanced out of the pools to the preliminary tables on Friday, but only Willock and Lawrence qualified for the table of 64 on Saturday with Lawrence earning her final preliminary win over Campbell, 13-12.
On Saturday, Lawrence and Willock each had close opening losses. Willock lost to Yun-Hee Oh (KOR) while Lawrence lost to Hajnalka Kiraly (FRA), 12-11. Lawrence and Willock finished 56th and 58th, respectively.
