European Maccabi Games seeking Fencing for International Summer Games

The European Maccabi Games will be held in Vienna from July 5 – 13, 2011.  There will be over 2,000 athletes from 40 countries participating.  The Games will represent the largest gathering of Jews in Vienna since The Holocaust.

Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel is expecting to send a United States team of 200 athletes. The U.S. Fencing Team will be one of 16 sports to have representation in Junior, Open and Masters Categories.

The U.S. Fencing team will consist of two women and one man in each of the three weapons for the Open competition.  The selection criteria will be based on the USA Fencing rolling point standings including results up to the January 2011 Division 1 NAC.

In addition, we have been asked to field a Junior team if there is enough support.  If that materializes, the selection criteria will be based on the USA Fencing rolling point standings after the 2011 Junior Olympics.  If you are interested in the European Maccabi Games, it is important to contact the Maccabi Games Fencing Chair Stu Rothenberg at sgrtravel@aol.com.
