PASO Coaching Conference

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) in partnership with USA Fencing and the Federation Internationale d'Escrime (FIE), and under the auspices of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) is hosting a high level coaching course July 20-26, 2009 in Colorado Springs, CO. The course is for Elite Level Fencing Coaches from all of the National Olympic Committees of the America's (NOC).

The objectives of the course are:

  • To update and inform the participants of the latest theoriesaffiliated to coaching and the applied sciences as they relate to the sport of fencing
  • To enhance the professional skills of the participating coaches, who are representatives of their respective National Olympic Committees, for the benefit of their NOC's high performance athletes and their performance in elite competition
  • To collaborate on raising the technical level of these coaches for the benefit of their high performance athletes as they prepare for the events within the Olympic cycle.

The course covered the following topics:

USA Fencing Beijing Overview
Dartfish Presentations
Sports Psychology
Fencing Clubs in America
Strength & Conditioning
Nutrition
Periodization Presentation
Course work in all three weapons

Presentors included: Mike Pederson, Robyn Mason, Kirsten Peterson, Alex Ryjik, Bo Sandoval, Alicia Kendig, Jonathan Carlock, Buckie Leach, Brendan Richard, Andy Ma, Ro Sobalvatto and Os Baldasari.
