Bid Packets Now Available for 2009-2010 Regional Open Circuit

Bid packets are now available for the 2009-2010 Regional Open Circuit. To be eligible, tournaments must be held between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. Four to six tournaments will be designated as ROC events for the upcoming competitive season. Bids must be submitted to the USFA national office by Friday, May 29, with the ROC selections to be announced in late June.

"We're looking for a good mix of new and established tournaments across the country," says Mary Griffith, new chair of the ROC Advisory Group, which over sees the circuit. "We want to encourage the development of strong new regional tournaments, so we'll be doing outreach through the USFA and through other outlets such as FRED and Fencing.net." Griffith will hold informal information sessions about the ROC bid process and the circuit in general at the Portland NAC in April; specific details will be available at the NAC registration desk at the venue.

The Regional Open Circuit (ROC) is a series of six-weapon tournaments aimed at the Open-level fencer interested in a national-level quality of tournament at regional-level expense. The top four finishers in each weapon at each tournament qualify for the Division I-A event at Summer Nationals.

Known this season as the National Open Circuit, the name is changed for next season to better reflect the nature of the tournament series. NOC tournaments this season were the Remenyik Open in Chicago, the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas), the Poujardieu Memorial in San Marcos, Texas, and the Jeff Wolfe Memorial Challenge in Rocky Point, NY, to be held May 2-3. (Registration for the Wolfe is still open at the NOC site on FRED: http://www.usfanoc.askfred.net)
