Teddy Sherrill and Adam Watson Finish in Top 64 at Tallinn Epee World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Two U.S. fencers placed in the top 64 on Saturday at the Tallinn Epee World Cup in Estonia.

Teddy Sherrill (New York City, N.Y.) placed 43rd and St. John’s senior Adam Watson (Richford, Vt.) finished 64th.

Sherrill went 5-1 in the pools on Friday and just missed advancing directly to the table of 64 by two touches.

Sherrill won his preliminary table of 128 bout over Yadong Chen (CHN), 8-7, and advanced to the table of 64 after a 15-12 victory over Christopher Kneip (GER).

Watson struggled in the pools where he finished 2-3, but won his next two bouts over teammate Scott Rostal (St. Paul, MInn.), 15-4, and Richard Pokorny (CZE), 15-11.

On Saturday, Sherrill and Watson each drew eventual medalists in the opening round.

Sherrill finished 43rd after a 15-5 loss to eventual silver medalist Jae Ho Song (KOR).

Watson came within two touches of upsetting world #1 Max Heinzer (SUI), but lost the bout, 15-13, and finished 64th.
