(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that the 2014 January North American Cup will be held in Virginia Beach, Va. and the 2014 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships will take place in Portland, Ore.

The January NAC will take place at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and will include Division I, Junior, Wheelchair and Senior Team events over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend: Jan. 17-20.

Virginia Beach has been the home of numerous USA Fencing national competitions, including the 2012 November NAC and the 2012 Division I and Wheelchair National Championships where the London Olympic and Paralympic Teams were named.

Held annually over Presidents’ Day weekend (Feb. 14-17), the 2014 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships will feature the best junior and cadet fencers in the nation in the final qualifying tournament for the 2014 Junior and Cadet World Championships. The Junior Olympics will be held at the Portland Convention Center – a site that was home to the 2012 January NAC and the 2011 Division I and Wheelchair National Championships.

A hotbed of fencing, Portland is the hometown of numerous Olympians as well as dozens of local athletes who will vie for berths on the 2014 Junior and Cadet World Team. Watch for Oregon natives Sage Palmedo (Portland, Ore.), a 2013 Junior World Team champion, and Isabel Ford (Salem, Ore.) to be among the top candidates for positions on this year’s junior national teams.
