(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – After winning a record-setting 68 medals at the 2014 Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships, Team USA will take on the region again beginning on Tuesday and continuing through Saturday in Lima, Peru.

For athletes in the Veteran 1 (50-59) and Veteran 2 (60+), the five-day tournament will serve as the final tuneup for the Veteran World Championships which will be held from Oct. 20-25 in Limoges, France.

In addition to the veteran events, competition also will be held for Pre-Veteran (40-49), Youth A (Y10) and Youth B (Y14) athletes.

Team USA includes three defending gold medalists from the 2014 Pan Am Veteran Championships.

The reigning Pan Am Veteran Champion in the Veteran 2 women’s foil event, 2014 Veteran World Team member Lynnette Whitt (Owings, Md.), will be back in action, but Whitt’s toughest challenger is expected to be teammate Anne-Marie Walters (Parkland, Fla.) – a five-time individual Veteran World medalist who will fence in both the Veteran 2 foil and epee events.

Four-time Veteran World Team member Charles Alexander (Escondido, Calif.) is returning to the Pan Ams to defend his Veteran 2 men’s epee title after leading the Americans to a sweep of the podium in the event last year.

Gladys Berardi (Long Valley, N.Y.) won gold in the Pre-Veteran women’s saber competition last year and gook bronze in the Veteran 1 saber event. This year, 59-year-old Berardi will fence in the Veteran 2 events for epee, foil and saber.
