Here’s the 2023-24 USA Fencing NAC and Championship Schedule
by Bryan Wendell
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — From the family friendly atmosphere of Orlando to the bustling streets of Portland, each stop on the 2023-24 USA Fencing national tournament schedule promises a unique backdrop for fierce competition and can’t-miss moments on and off the strip.
The 2023-24 calendar includes seven major tournaments at cities across all four time zones. Each stop is a chance to showcase the talent and dedication of America's top fencers. From the youngest Y10 fencers to the most seasoned Vet-80 athletes, it’s a schedule with something for everyone.
We also understand that where our tournaments are held is just as important as when we announce each new season. Last year, we released the 2022-23 schedule after Summer Nationals, and we heard loud and clear from our members that you want the schedule much earlier.
We met that request this year, sharing the schedule roughly three months earlier. Today’s announcement includes tournament dates and locations. Event combos and day schedules will be shared in May.
Our Promise to Members
We also remain committed to our November 2022 promise to give preference in site selection to states with more inclusive laws. That commitment will continue as we balance this promise with the other realities outlined in our original announcement, including site availability, a city’s interest in hosting our tournaments, maintaining geographic diversity and many more.
In order to provide transparency, we look toward the MAP (Movement Advancement Project) Score for LGBTQIA+ issues in each of these states, including trans athlete rights. California and Oregon are amongst the highest ranking states, while Utah, North Carolina and Ohio are in the Fair category.
Finally while Texas and Florida do fall into the low category, they do not score in the eight states with a negative score. In the area of Women’s reproductive rights, the Center for Reproductive Rights shows that of these states, Texas has made abortion illegal while in Utah, Ohio and North Carolina there is some hostility to reproductive rights. California, Oregon and Florida have all expanded or protected reproductive rights.
We also understand the large number of members who desire to see a NAC event in the Northeast (Region 3). While we have not been able to deliver this in 2023-2024, partially due to the lack of venues capable of holding a USA Fencing national tournament in this region, we are in advanced discussions for doing so in future years. We are pleased to have events in Regions 1 2, 4, 5 and 6 this coming year.
With all of that in mind, let’s not delay any further. Here is the 2023-24 national tournament schedule!
