USA Fencing is seeking volunteers to help host the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Saber World Cup in Salt Lake City from Jan. 22–25, 2026.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — When world-class fencing comes to town, the best seat in the house isn’t always in the stands. Sometimes, it’s on the competition floor, at the awards podium or beside the replay strip — exactly where volunteers will be when the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Saber World Cup arrives in Salt Lake City from Jan. 22–25, 2026.
This is your chance to get access to world-class fencing and secure a front-row seat for a historic event as USA Fencing and the FIE welcome the world. Fans can look forward to Women’s Saber stars like Misaki Emura (Japan), Yoana Ilieva (Bulgaria) and Maia Chamberlain (USA) and Men’s Saber standouts such as Jean-Philippe Patrice (France), Sandro Bazadze (Georgia) and Colin Heathcock (USA).
Volunteering is one of the most impactful ways to support USA Fencing and our Team USA athletes. In appreciation, volunteers will receive free admission into the event for the day or days they serve, a volunteer T-shirt, a meal voucher for each shift and parking validation.
A wide variety of roles means there’s a place for everyone:
- Anti-doping: Assist USADA representatives by helping locate athletes for testing, escorting them to the sample collection area and completing other tasks as needed. Volunteers in this role must be 18 or older.
- Armory: Support the armory team with moving and packing equipment and assisting with pre- and post-competition equipment checks. No formal armory training is required.
- Awards/General: Help stage award ceremonies and present medals and trophies to podium finishers. Dress wear is required, including professional slacks, dress shirts, jackets and dress shoes or equivalent attire.
- Bag Carriers: Assist with carrying equipment from control to replay and finals strips during quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds.
- Setup and Breakdown: Before the first touch and after the last, help assemble and disassemble branding, hang and remove flags and pack equipment.
- Camera Operators: Operate boom cameras during replay rounds, helping capture the decisive moments of the competition.
- Technical Director (DT) Assistants: Support DT members and the DT president with tournament operations and administrative tasks.
- Registration: Welcome participants and spectators by distributing credentials, selling tickets and providing wayfinding assistance.
Whether you’re a fencer, parent, coach or fan, volunteering in Salt Lake City offers a unique way to experience elite saber up close while giving back to the sport.
