Volunteers Needed for 2026 WAS Para Fencing World Cup in Bradenton, Florida
by Nicole Kirk
USA Fencing is seeking volunteers to support the 2026 WAS Para Fencing World Cup in Bradenton, Florida at the IMG Academy (5650 Bollettieri Blvd, Bradenton, FL 34210), May 25-30, 2026. This international competition will bring athletes from around the globe as they begin the LA 2028 Paralympic Games qualification cycle, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a world-class event.
Volunteers will play a critical role in the success of the competition while gaining valuable experience in parafencing. Those who receive parafencing training and competition experience will be documented and prioritized by LA28 for future Games volunteer opportunities.
To ensure smooth operations, USA Fencing is looking to fill several key volunteer positions:
Pit Crew
Pit crew volunteers are essential to event operations, assisting with resetting and adjusting parafencing frames throughout competition. This is an active role, and volunteers should be comfortable with:
- Lifting objects up to 40 lbs (moving and adjusting frames during and between bouts)
- Repeatedly getting up and down from the floor
- Standing for extended periods of time
- General disability etiquette knowledge is a plus, but not required
Armory
Armory volunteers will support the armory team by checking equipment and responding to strip calls. Prior armory experience is helpful but not required.
Transportation Helpers
On arrival and departure days, transportation helpers will assist with loading and unloading luggage, fencing bags, and wheelchairs from buses transporting athletes.
USADA Doping Chaperones
Chaperones will escort athletes from the field of play to the testing area in accordance with USADA guidelines. A brief training will be provided by a USADA representative prior to assignments.
Note: Must be 18 years or older to serve in this role.
Volunteers should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and clothing that allows for ease of movement. All volunteers will receive:
- A meal voucher for their shift
- An event t-shirt (to be worn during their shift)
- Free parking
This is a unique opportunity to support international parafencing competition, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the growth of the sport.
