USA Fencing Recognizes Athletes Who Earned Ratings in May

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - More than 400 athletes from 198 clubs earned USA Fencing ratings during the month of May with 173 épée, 144 foil and 103 saber ratings being awarded.

Ratings were awarded as follows:

A: 42
B: 62
C: 90
D: 75
E: 150

The top four clubs in the nation remain the same as in April in Fencers Club (88), Denver Fencing Center (66), Alliance Fencing Academy (64) and Medeo Fencing Club (63). Manhattan Fencing Center moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 with eight athletes earning ratings during the month of May for a total of 62 during the season. Athlete from the Fencing Academy of Westchester earned five ratings to move up from No. 14 to a tie for No. 10.

Seventeen-year-old Chinese foil fencer Yiming Han renewed his E at the Brooklyn Fencing D & Under tournament in May and went on to upgrade his rating to an A just a week later with a gold medal win at the East Coast Challenge RJCC.

Five athletes earned ratings in both épée and foil in May.

Eighteen-year-old Lucas Bolton (Glenshaw, Pa.) upgraded his B19 to an A19 in foil after a gold medal win in mixed foil at the Bautista Memorial Open. Earlier in the month, Bolton earned his C19 with a bronze medal in senior men’s épée at the May the 4th Open.

Jesse Harvey (Winnabow, N.C.) renewed a B rating in épée and a D in foil. The 25 year old won two medals at the CFFA Stab-A-Thon, winning gold in the senior mixed épée and silver in the senior mixed foil.

Joseph Tiberi (Golden, Colo.) earned C ratings in both weapons at the Purdue Open. The 19 year old won gold in the mixed foil competition to renew his C18. Previously holding a D13 in épée, Tiberi picked up a C19 in the weapon with an eighth-place finish in the mixed competition.

Eighteen-year-old Aidan Labrozzi (Cary, N.C.) upgraded both his foil and épée ratings at the Apex Open. Labrozzi earned his C after a silver medal in the Div 1A senior men’s épée event and his D with a gold in the C & under senior mixed foil competition

Sixteen-year-old Hassan Choudhry (Freehold, N.J.) earned the first ratings of his young career with a pair of E ratings. Choudhry won gold at Freehold Fencing’s Div III Foil tournament as well as a second title at Freehold Fencing’s Unrated Épée event.

Recognition will be based on the month in which the rating earned is posted by the USA Fencing National Office.
