COVID-19 Events Update

As local and regional competitions resume, it is important to remember that we all must do our part to protect the health and safety of ourselves and other members of the USA Fencing family.

USA Fencing has been made aware that a competitor at a recent regional event tested positive for COVID-19 shortly thereafter.  The tournament organizers have so notified all participants in that event, and have separately notified participants who apparently may have had close contact with the individual.

Prior to attending practice or a tournament, all participants are asked to self-monitor for any symptoms of COVID-19, including but not limited to cough, fever and shortness of breath. Participants should stay home if they are experiencing symptoms or have had, within the previous 14 days, direct contact of 15 minutes or longer within six feet of anyone who was known to have COVID-19.  Participants who experience symptoms of COVID-19 during an event, should contact the tournament organizers and/or medical staff immediately. As announced in October, at all times during training and competition, all fencers and other participants, MUST wear a mask, practice social distancing, and adhere to other protocols announced by USA Fencing and relevant clubs or event organizers.

If you test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days after attending a practice of competition, contact the relevant club or tournament organizer immediately and consult your healthcare provider for guidance. Per USA Fencing policy, clubs and tournament organizers will NOT share the affected athlete’s name with other fencers and parents in order to protect the privacy of the athlete and his or her family.

Throughout the season, USA Fencing will communicate with the membership with updates on tournaments including any changes to the Return to Competition Guidelines.
