COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Andrea Pagnanelli, a distinguished sports executive with a proven track record of fostering growth and innovation, was named as an independent director on the USA Fencing Board of Directors in a vote on May 18.

Pagnanelli’s appointment is the latest example of the organization's ongoing commitment to enhance diversity, inclusion and the overall development of fencing in the United States.

Pagnanelli, who currently serves as the CEO of the National Cycling League, brings more than 15 years of experience across several major sports leagues, including the NBA, NFL, MLS and NWSL. Her extensive background in sports management and her dedication to the advancement of sports at all levels make her a valuable addition to the USA Fencing Board as fencing looks to reach new households.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to join the board of USA Fencing among so many talented people,” Pagnanelli says. “Having worked in sports for almost two decades, I am honored to support the core values around diversity, inclusion, and growth of the sport.”

Pagnanelli's career is marked by success at the executive and operational levels of sports and entertainment — as evidenced by her two most recent roles. She served as the Chief Business Officer of the professional women's soccer team Gotham FC. Before that, she was Chief Operating Officer of the sports media and events company Thuzio.

Her expertise in venue and event strategy was showcased during her tenure as Executive Vice President at the MLS club LAFC where she oversaw high-profile events at Banc of California Stadium. Before that, her role as Vice President of Commercial at Relevent Sports saw her manage marketing, brand strategy and sponsorship for the International Champions Cup.

Pagnanelli got her start in the sports industry with the Phoenix Suns and later the New York Jets. She demonstrated entrepreneurial prowess as the CEO of LeapSeats, an app offering in-venue seat upgrades.

And like so many fencers who find success in the corporate world, Pagnanelli got her start in NCAA athletics. She was a Division I soccer player at Brown University, where she says her personal experience as a student-athlete drove her advocacy for equality in sports and the development of future leaders.

Pagnanelli's appointment fills the vacancy left by Aimee Rice, an independent director whom we thank for her service to fencing. USA Fencing’s nominating committee conducted a comprehensive search to find its next Independent Director, quickly turning its attention toward the talented and connected Pagnanelli.

Phil Andrews, CEO of USA Fencing, expressed his enthusiasm for working with Pagnanelli on the board.

“Andrea’s extensive background in sports management and her dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion align perfectly with our goals,” he says. “Her experience and vision will undoubtedly help steer USA Fencing towards a more dynamic future."
