Lu, an individual bronze medalist at the Junior World Championships in April, won her first Junior World Cup title in the opening event of the season.

Seeded 10th after the pools, Lu had a bye into the 64 where she defeated teammate Sarah Taffel (New York City, N.Y.), 15-8, just a week after the two both won bronze at the North American Cup in Austin.

Lu dominated her next three opponents to advance to the medal rounds as she won bouts against Olga Stankevych (UKR), 14-9; Camilla Mancini (ITA), 15-6; and Olga Rachele Calissi (ITA), 15-5.

In the semifinals, Lu outtouched Francesca Palumbo (ITA), 9-8, to advance to the gold medal bout where she defeated Martyna Jelinska (POL), 11-5.

Seventeen-year-old Jennifer Yamin (Allendale, N.J.) and 2011 Junior World Team silver medalist Jacqueline Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) each finished in the top eight as well.

Yamin defeated #3 seed Lisa Milanese (ITA), 15-14, in the table of 16, but lost to Palumbo, 15-10, in the quarters to finish fifth.

Dubrovich upset top seed Pauline Ranvier (ITA), 15-14, in the table of 32 and then defeated Erica Cipressa (ITA), 15-12, shortly after Cipressa ousted Alice Volpi (ITA), the 2010-2011 Junior World Cup points winner.

In the table of eight, Beatrice Monaco (ITA) won their bout, 15-6, and Dubrovich ended the day in seventh place.

Reigning Junior World Champion Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also fell to Monaco at the conclusion of a 15-13 table of 16 bout and finished in 11th place.

In the men’s event, four members of Team USA advanced to the table of 16. Jerry Chang (Mountain View, Calif.) finished 10th and Michael Woo (Wayne, N.J.), Stephen Mageras (Darien, Conn.) and Max Blitzer (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively.
