Team USA Places 12th at Luxardo Saber World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. men’s team placed 12th on Sunday at the Luxardo Saber World Cup in Padoue, Italy.

Beijing Olympic team saber silver medalists Tim Morehouse (New York City, N.Y.) and James Williams (Sacramento, Calif.) joined with 2010 Senior World Team members Daryl Homer (New York City, N.Y.) and Benjamin Igoe (Staten Island, N.Y.) to compete in the team tournament.

Although Team USA lost its opening bout, 45-31 to Germany, the squad rebounded in the 9-16 table to defeat Turkey , 45-25.

In the next round, the Americans lost to Spain, 45-36 which caused the team to drop down to compete for 11th place.

Team USA competed well against Chinese opponents in the final bout, but lost, 45-25, to finish 12th overall.

Prior to the team event, Team USA competed in the individual world cup on Friday and Saturday.    

Morehouse, Homer, Williams and Igoe all advanced out of the opening pools and rounds on Friday to advance to the table of 64.

Morehouse and Homer placed 37th and 47th, respectively, while Williams and Igoe finished 53rd and 56th. 

The four were joined in the top 64 by Jeff Spear (Amissville, Va. / 39), Avery Zuck (Portland, Ore. / 53) and Mihail Etropolski (Floral Park, N.Y. / 59).
