USA Wheelchair Fencing Team Announced

We are pleased to announce the USA Fencing Wheelchair World Championship Team. The following athletes will represent Team USA in Paris, France, November 4 – 12, 2010.

Men’s Team: Dennis Aspy, Joseph Brinson, Mark Calhoun, Ryan Estep, Gerard Moreno, Mario Rodriguez, Scott Rodgers (alternate)

Women’s Team: Catherine Bouwkamp, Andrea Demello, Sonia Fogal, Rebekkah Sides, Sonia Perduta (alternate)

Coaches: Julio Diaz, Les Stawicki Team Leader: Ginny Boydston

“It is an honor and privilege to be part of the team,” says coach Julio Diaz. “We have some of our most experienced fencers going as well as new athletes that are out to prove themselves and make a run for the Paralympics in 2012. “

Diaz says his goal as a USA Wheelchair Fencing coach is not just to help athletes compete at the World Championships but to also start taking them to the next level so that they can place and earn medals.

“It shows that our program is working; we have more wheelchair fencers now in the US than we have had in a decade. The goal for 2012 is position our athletes to have top rankings for the Paralympics.”

The World Championships will take place at the Grand Palais, a prestigious setting for an unforgettable championship, located near the world famous Avenue des Champs Elysées.  Supporters interested in coming in Paris during the championships should go to www.france-sport.com for more information.
