The Men's Epee Program will be holding a National Team training camp in partnership with the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

USA Fencing is pleased to announce that the first national team training camp for fencing at the US Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs will be held the last week of July.  We have been working closely with the US Olympic Committee to develop new opportunities for training environments and this will be the first time that we will take advantage of the tremendous resources that the OTC offers our national team and developmental athletes.

Building a unified team across weapons is a focus for our organization, and leveraging our partnership with the US Olympic Committee is critical to developing a program known for sustained excellence. The national office staff and the national coaches are dedicated to the concept of the six-weapon camp.  Unfortunately, confirming space this summer at the OTC was more difficult than normal as nearly all of the other summer sports also were hoping to capitalize on the partnership.

The logistical challenges have made it impractical to attempt to organize a full six-weapon camp for this first OTC event, but with the men’s epee team already in residence at the OTC we have decided to take advantage of their presence to make our inaugural training camp a strictly epee event.  During this event we will fine tune our national team training process and then apply lessons learned toward the development of a comprehensive, six-weapon camp with the help of all of our national coaches to be held at the end of 2010.  Our intention with the OTC camps will be to apply all of the high performance support available to our sport through the experts at the OTC and to invest in team building as we look ahead to 2012.

In order to be eligible for this camp, you must fill out the application and return to p.fitzgerald@usfencing.org  by Friday June 25, 2010.
