(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that Keri Byerts (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been hired as the organization’s new director of finance and business services.

Byerts, a Certified Public Accountant, brings both an extensive financial background to her position as well as past experience as an elite fencer who won a bronze medal at the 2003 Cadet World Championships for athletes ages 17 and under and earned NCAA All-American honors during her career at Penn State University.

“I am excited to work with an organization what has had a monumental effect in my life. Fencing was my passion for more than 12 years of my life and I see this as a great opportunity to use my education and experience to give back and improve USA Fencing,” said Byerts who began her new role on Monday.

Byerts earned a Master’s degree in accounting from Penn State in 2010 and worked for two years as an associate auditor who specialized in non-profit organizations for Cohn Reznick LLC – a public accounting firm in Bethesda, Md.

“We’re pleased to have Keri join our staff in the National Office. She brings a level of experience and non-profit knowledge that will benefit USA Fencing,” said USA Fencing CEO Val Belmonte (Colorado Springs, Colo.) “Keri’s background and industry knowledge will help us improve the functions of our office and her background as a former elite fencer will be beneficial as she works with our constituents.”

As the director of finance and business services, Byerts will be working closely not only with the National Office staff, but also with USA Fencing Treasurer Sam Cheris (Denver, Colo.)

“I’m looking forward to working with Keri and know that her accounting education and CPA experience in the non-profit area will add to the quality and professionalism of the National Office,” Cheris said.
