(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – While still in high school, foil fencer Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) won back-to-back silver medals in the team event of the Junior World Championships.

Now a freshman at Columbia, the 18-year-old increased her chances of qualifying for at a third Junior Worlds with her bronze medal win at the Lyon Junior Foil World Cup in France on Saturday.

Seeded seventh out of the pools, won her table of 64 bout over Barbara Ojeda (ESP), 15-3, and defeated Oriane Sam (FRA), 15-9, in her next bout.

After a 15-6 victory over Federica Lava (ITA) in the table of 16, Dubrovich advanced to the medal rounds when she defeated Marie Mana (FRA) in the quarter-finals, 15-11.

In the semifinals, Dubrovich lost her bout to Martina Sinigalia (ITA), 15-10, and ended the day with a bronze medal.

Dubrovich’s podium finish – her second of the season on the Junior World Cup circuit – is expected to move her into the #3 position in the National Team Point Standings later this week with the top three athletes in the rankings at the conclusion of the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships (Feb. 15-18 in Baltimore) earning individual berths on the team.

Two U.S. team members advanced to the table of 16 which gave both Mary McElwee (San Francisco, Calif.) and Eliza Klyce (San Francisco, Calif.) career-best finishes at a Junior World Cup.
