UPDATE: USA Fencing has confirmed with the FIE that the following are the eligible birth years for the 2013 Veteran World Championships:

1943 and before

Month and day of birth is not considered.

PDF files of the current rolling rankings will be posted at: no later than Monday, March 11th; these will be the rankings used to seed the March NAC. Veteran Team rankings will be posted after the conclusion of the March NAC.

Veteran Combined and Veteran 40 are not part of team selection; age ranges for these competitions remain as previously announced.

On Feb. 25, the Federation Internationale d’Escrime announced that there will be a change in the dates used to determine age eligibility at the Veteran World Championships.

This change is effective immediately and will be in place for the 2013 Veteran World Championships.

The selection process for the 2013 Veteran World Championship Team as listed in Section 4.6 of the USA Fencing Athlete Handbook (click here to view) is based on an athlete’s best two of three results at the 2012 December North American Cup, 2013 March NAC and 2013 National Championships. This process will remain unchanged.

All athletes who are currently qualified, as of March 6, 2013, to compete at the 2013 USA Fencing National Championships in veteran events will retain their eligibility. If an athlete’s age category has changed from the one he or she initially qualified in, that eligibility will be transferred to the new age category.

Seeding for the March NAC and National Championships will remain as described in sections 2.10 and 2.11.7 of the USA Fencing Athlete Handbook. (Click here to view.)

The following is the motion passed by the USA Fencing Board of Directors on March 5.

Motion (Mr. Baker, on behalf of the Veterans Committee): To adopt the attached recommended changes for veterans national point standings, Veteran World Championship team selection, and National Championship eligibility, and recommended plans to communicate associated changes to the affected membership.
