U.S. Women’s Epee Team Finishes Eighth at Barcelona World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA finished eighth at the Barcelona Epee World Cup on Sunday to end the first leg of the international season with a top-four world ranking.

London Olympic medalists Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas) and Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.) were joined by five-time Senior World Team member Lindsay Campbell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and two-time Senior World Team member Lauren Willock (Astoria, N.Y.)

Seeded fourth, Team USA earned a bye into the table of 16 where the Americans defeated Hong Kong, 36-33.

In the quarter-finals, Team USA lost by a single touch to Ukraine, 33-32.

While Ukraine went on to win bronze, Team USA had two more bouts for a chance at fifth place.

In the first, the Americans lost to Estonia, 45-40. Fencing for seventh place, Team USA lost to Romania, the third-ranked women’s epee team in the world, by a score of 40-29.
