From Sept. 27-29, the USA Fencing Board of Directors and members of the National Office staff gathered in Chicago for a retreat to plan for the remainder of the quadrennium and realign the strategic plan.

Retreat participants met with the Daugherty Solutions Team, led by veteran fencer Ron Daugherty, as well as U.S. Olympic Committee Chief of Sports Operations and NGB Relations Rick Adams and USOC Team Leader of Sports Performance Rachel Isaacs. Eddie Moore of Moore Consulting served as a facilitator for the retreat.

“The Board addressed the challenges the organization has faced over the years with understanding the division between policy and strategic leadership which is the purview of the Board and operational leadership which is the responsibility of our National Office,” said USA Fencing President Donald Anthony Jr. “With the help of the road map developed by Daugherty,  the clarity achieved in the meeting and the financial progress made over the last year, we are well prepared for our next USOC audit and on track for a very successful year ahead.”

The new strategic plan outlines short and long-term goals for the organization as well as ways to increase organizational effectiveness.

"The National Office is excited to begin the work outlined in the strategic alignment project as we work together with the Board of Directors and our membership to ensure the continued success of USA Fencing," said Interim Executive Director Kris Ekeren.  "We want to thank the Daugherty team for its assistance and support during the initial project and look forward to working with them in the future."
