Team USA Wins 14 Medals on Second Day of Pan Am Youth and Veteran Championships

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA’s success continued in St. Cruz, Aruba on Thursday with 14 medal wins at the Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships.

Two-time Veteran World medalist Joseph Streb (Columbus, Ohio) led the American men to a 1-2-3 finish in the Veteran 2 (60-69) men’s saber competition. Streb took gold while Keith Baker (McLean, Va.) and William Gelnaw (Fullerton, Calif.) finished with silver and bronze.

Margaret Fagan (New York City, N.Y.) won her first international title with a gold medal in the Pre-Veteran (40-49) women’s foil event. Her teammates, Bonnie Hennig (Simsbury, Conn.) and Diane Ferguson (Rockville, Md.), each won bronze.

A trio of current and former Veteran World Team members reached the podium in the Veteran 1 (50-59) women’s foil competition. Three-time Veteran World Team member Ursula Szpak (Trophy Club, Texas) followed her 2013 Pan Am bronze medal with a silver in Aruba. Two-time Veteran World Team member Lynn Botelho (Indiana, Pa.) and 2010 Veteran World medalist Michelle Verhave (Purdys, N.Y.) claimed bronze medals.

In the Pre-Veteran men’s saber competition, Andrew Greenbaum (Boca Raton, Fla.) represented Team USA on the podium with a silver.

Team USA’s youth competitors won four medals.

Juliana Hung (San Francisco, Calif.) won Team USA’s first Youth A (8-10) gold medal of the tournament when she took the women’s foil title in her age group.

Daniel Campbell (Oakton, Va.) led an American trio of medalists with a gold and was followed by silver medalist Michael Mogilevich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and bronze medalist Ethan Kushnerik (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
